#4 – Things I’ll Miss About South Africa’s World Cup

4.  Being American. You wouldn’t believe how easy it is to pick an American out of any crowd.   No one on the corner have swagger like US.

And I'm proud to be an American
Textbook Americans. Textbook inconspicuous.

In South Africa, they loved the Americans (or, says the cynic, our tourism dollars).  They shouted us out loud everywhere we went.

“Hey!  USA!”

“We love America!”

And, oh yes, there is a special place in their hearts for American girls.  America has a personality and a brand.  It’s bold, loud, hopeful, welcoming, and a little obnoxious and self-congratulating — just like a family reunion.  There’s certainly no hiding from that.

America is on the map.

Our reception in ZA was so warm, it was as if they already knew us before we arrived.  And it felt incredible to walk around unknown streets and be celebrated–we’re so glad you made it– just for coming from the States.  It made me even more proud and excited to cheer for The Stars and Stripes.

We are the good guys.
